Chin Cheng-Te is a life-long volunteer at the Spring Grass Arts Academy. For many years, he has continuously produced nostalgic postcards using images found in Taiwan’s historical artifacts and publications. Selected works were published as Love Poems Written to the Island (2006). Spring Grass Art Academy’s Island Box has also been presented as the presidential gift for the 21st and 23rd National Award for Arts.
In his artistic practice, Chin has developed a highly distinctive, geography-based fieldwork methodology. He traverses rarely visited mountain paths, engaging in acts such as carving, transporting, and erecting stone tablets as a way of conversing with the land, its history, and the fleeting words that surface during his solitary walks through forests and mountains. His recent solo exhibitions include Cold Storage Abstracts (2014). Major group exhibitions include Towards Mysterious Realities (Total Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul, 2018), the 9th Busan Biennale 2018, Taipei Biennial 2020, Bē-kì-tit (forgotten) (Keelung Museum of Art, 2024), and the 2025 Green Island Human Rights Art Festival.
