吳孟璋|Meng-chang Wu
1971年出生於高雄,國立臺南藝術學院(現國立臺南藝術大學)造形藝術研究所碩士,以石雕創作為主要創作媒材,目前定居於臺南。 曾推出「生之象」吳孟璋個展於國立臺南藝術學院視覺中心(2003)、「誰─離體」吳孟璋創作個展於臺南原型藝術空間(2002),亦曾參與「石之道」於臺北赤粒藝術(2016)、「樸石藏玉,曖曖含光」於臺中樸石藝術(2016)、「雙關語」於臺中臻品藝術中心(2015)、「臺南現象五國演繹」於臺南東門美術館(2015)、「東海作為形容詞」於東海大學(2014)、「東方自然與西方風景」於新竹藝術8 (2014)、「高雄.美術─『合體』,不設限」於高雄市立文化中心(2012)、「2011材質物語─土」於朱銘美術館(2011)等展覽展出。 其個人創作歷程與石雕的造型漸變,常隨著光的導引而有心理共振,體悟自身和外在環境的關係,以致於他期許在自我完成中達到定靜的狀態。如同他的創作自述所說「那是一個世界的狀態,兩極兼容並蓄,如兩個實體相隔距離的空白,或有著方向性的從一個點到另一個點,或週而復始地循環。工作過程中會順著石材原初的狀態,將其大部份或局部性地保留在作品中,也嘗試著去尋找它們的某些特性,如作品中的斷裂面,在壓力下的分子裂解,產生相應的質感痕跡。不僅是與原始粗獷的相對,亦是石材與作者之間的一種對話方式,在破與立之間的兩位一體。 Born in Kaohsiung in 1971, Meng-chang Wu earned his master’s degree at the Graduate Institute of Plastic Arts at Tainan National University of the Arts (TNNUA, formerly Tainan National College of the Arts). Wu’s main way of creation is stone carving. He now lives in Tainan. Wu’s stone sculptures morph along with his road of creation. His spirit often resonates with nature under the guidance of light, enlightening him on his relationship between the environment and himself, which led to his resolution to achieve the state of total tranquility through his self-accomplishment. Just like the artist himself says in his profile, “It’s a state of the world where the scale is balanced. Like a space between two entities, or a directional path from one point to another, or even a full cycle that goes on and on. In my process of creation, I try to keep part of or most of the original state of the stone in my final work. I also try to discover the unique features in the stones, such as the fractures in my work, which are marks left by the atomic breakdown under pressure. It’s not only a contrast to the primitive side but also a dialogue between the stone and creator. It’s a mixed state between creation and destruction.”
